In a 2019 interview he had with the publication, he stated categorically that he hated the song “with a passion”. Juice WRLD hated “Lucid Dreams”ĭespite the track’s insane success, Juice told NME that he disliked the song. Juice WRLD was sued for a considerable amount of money in October of 2019 by a rock band from Florida called Yellowcard. They allege that he plagiarized their 2006 song “ Holly Wood Died” in the making of his own 2017 track “Lucid Dreams”. At the time, no one expected Juice WRLD to die less than two months later. But with that being the case, Yellowcard still opted to continue with the lawsuit. It samples Sting’s 1993 hit single “Shape of My Heart”. About a year later, on May 4th, 2018, the song was released again as the second single from Juice WRLD’s debut studio album titled Goodbye & Good Riddance. “Lucid Dream” was one of the tracks on that EP. On June 15th, 2017 Juice WRLD self-released his debut EP 9 9 9. It is both a hip hop song as well as an emo hip hop song. As of late 2020, the “Lucid Dreams” video had garnered over half a billion views on YouTube, making it one of the platforms most viewed videos. The first was for the song “ All Girls Are the Same“. This was officially the second Juice music video he directed. The song’s official music video (which can be seen above) was directed by noted American videographer named Cole Bennett. The music video of the track, which is psychedelic, was released in May 2018. He was therefore beyond surprised to see the immense success it achieved. According to him, he never in his wildest dreams expected it to be a hit. Speaking to No Jumper, Juice revealed that he wrote this song in a matter of just “twenty minutes”. What this basically means is that it has sold more than 6 million copies in the country. It is therefore one of the platform’s most streamed songs.Īs of 2020, this hit has gone 6x platinum in the United States. In the UK Singles Chart, the song peaked at number 10.īy 2020, “Lucid Dreams” had gained over a billion streams on the famous audio streaming platform, Spotify. This feat made the song the first song of Juice WRLD’s musical career to make it into the renowned Hot 100 top 10 singles. It made its debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 74 and ended up peaking at the 2nd position on that same chart. The song played an immense role in transforming Juice WRLD into a household name not only in the United States but also across the globe. They are credited because their 1993 song “ Shape of My Heart”, which was performed by Sting, is sampled heavily in “Lucid Dreams”.Īside co-writing the song, Nick Mira also produced it. Renowned English singer and songwriter Sting and Argentine-born guitarist Dominic Miller also received writing credits on the song. The song was written by Juice WRLD and music producer Nick Mira. “Lucid Dreams” is also known as “Lucid Dreams (Forget Me)”.

A comprehensive security suite like McAfee Total Protection includes our McAfee® Safe Connect standalone VPN with auto-renewal and takes the worry out of connecting, so you can focus on what’s important to you and your family, and enjoy quality time together. In today’s connected world, you can do so much on the internet. After all, these technologies should power your connected life, not serve as a hindrance.įortunately, we don’t have to sacrifice convenience, or pay high prices, for a VPN that can offer a high level of privacy and protection. You shouldn’t have to choose between your battery life and safeguarding your privacy.Įase of Use- As I’ve written recently, for technology to really work it has to be convenient. Less Battery Drain-Some free mobile VPNs zap your battery life, making users less likely to stay protected. Multiple Device Protection-These days many of us toggle between mobile devices, laptops, and computers, so they should all be able to connect securely. That’s why it’s important to choose a high-speed VPN that enhances your privacy, without sacrificing the quality of your connection. Whether connecting for productivity, education, or entertainment, we are all dependent on bandwidth. Speedy Performance-We all know how frustrating a sluggish internet connection can be when you are trying to get things done. Unlimited Bandwidth -You want your network connection to stay secure no matter how much time you spend online. That’s why I always advise users to look for a paid VPN with the following features: VPNs are critical tools for enhancing our privacy and shouldn’t be an avenue for potentially opening the door to new risks. Privacy Worth Paying For – Paid VPN Benefits In one worrying incident, a VPN provider exposed thousands of user logs and API access records openly on the web, including passwords and identity information. The same study found that 38% of the free VPN applications in the Google Play Store were found to have malware, such as keyloggers, and some even stole the data off of users’ devices.Īlso concerning is how these free providers handle your data. This is not that surprising, given that advertisers depend on gathering your personal data to better target their ads.īut beyond the frustration of ads, slowness, and upgrade prompts is the fact that some free VPN tools include malware that can put your sensitive information at risk. In fact, one study of 283 free VPN providers found that 72% included trackers. This means that not only are users bombarded with ads, they are also exposed to tracking, and potential malware. Since free VPNs are not making money directly from their users, many make revenue indirectly, through advertising. While it may be tempting to go for a free option, there are some serious considerations that you should take to heart. Sometimes a VPN is included in more robust security software, as it is in McAfee® Total Protection, but often it is a standalone tool, that is offered either at a monthly subscription rate, or for free. These threats mean that we need to do our best to ensure that our sensitive information stays safe, which is why I’d like to take a look at the difference between free VPNs and premium VPNs. This is unfortunate, because here at McAfee we’ve recorded a growing number of network attacks, including targeted attacks against a variety of business and educational enterprises. However, the myriad of VPN options-from free, to paid, to “freemium” (limited products offered on a trial basis for free, hoping customers will invest in more comprehensive, paid versions)-can be confusing and cause some customers to walk away unprotected. It protects your identity and financial information by encrypting, or scrambling, the data that flows through the tunnel, and can mask your true location, making it appear as though you are connecting from somewhere else. There has been a surge in VPN (virtual private network) downloads so far this year, showing that users are concerned about their online privacy, which is a good thing.Īs you may know, a personal VPN is simply a piece of software that can establish a secure tunnel over the internet, offering you both privacy and freedom from IP-based tracking. I know my family is trying to balance what we need to do online, like meetings and classes, with fun activities like streaming movies, given that we are all spending more time safely at home.īut as a security professional what I’m really concerned about is how we are connecting to all this digital content. If we’re being honest, many of us are consuming a lot of online content these days, whether it be for work, education, or sheer entertainment. It has a lot of easy to do features that Picasa users will be used to-such as rotating photos, resizing images, adding captions and setting a Geo location. The set up is similar to Picasa and is a one-source location for editing images and uploading them directly to Facebook, Flickr or other social media sites. The company has notified its users that, to access and modify photos they already have stored on Picasa, all they need to do is log into Google Photos, where all their photos and videos will be automatically uploaded.įor Windows users refusing to stick with Google, the Windows Live Photo Gallery is probably your best alternative. They have also made it super easy to do so. The company is already encouraging Picasa users to switch to their newer platform, Google Photos. The best course of action for Picasa users is to switch to an alternative: Though the program will continue to work if you currently use it, or download it before it’s shutdown next month, Google will not offer future updates. Though Picasa is a well-known photo organizer and editor, Google has had much more success with its newer photo storage and sharing application, Google Photos. Google recently announced that, starting March 16, it would no longer support the Picasa desktop application. With better optical quality than early transparent plastics and Daguerreotype, this became the best method for photographers until George Eastman stepped onto the scene. In the 1850s, glass plate photography became the standard for most cameras in the field. This film was first introduced in 1839 by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre and held the market for about 20 years until newer/cheaper methods of photography were developed. The first publicly available photographic film was called, Daguerreotype. So why do I speak so highly about film? Well before I get into my personal love for film–let’s discuss its history and its importance to the industry that we work in today. It was a mental game, a time of true previsualization, and putting your skills to the test. These were the days of filmmaking… A world where the cinematographer could be one with the camera and no producer could ever question what he or she was doing. It was a world of looking through the lens using an optical viewfinder and seeing the scene in it’s unaltered perspective. There were no monitors to check focus or to check IRE levels. Things weren’t immediately in front of you like they are today in the digital world. The choice was in what film stock you wanted to use to tell your stories and what lenses you wanted to pair with it. Film was that “image sensor,” the chemical process which held your images. It wasn’t a selection of the type of image sensor, it was a selection of the type of film. At one point in our industry, utilizing celluloid film was the only option for our projects. Most of you probably remember the days of film at least in a photographic sense. So wait, where is a sensor? What about 1’s and 0’s? How do I see what I’m shooting? Can I check my exposure with false color? “Photography” in Ullmann’s Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, 2005, Wiley-VCH, Weinheim.) The sizes and other characteristics of the crystals determine the sensitivity, contrast and resolution of the film. Photographic Film is a strip or sheet of transparent plastic film base coated on one side with a gelatin emulsion containing microscopically small light-sensitive silver halide crystals. He loves talking about and sharing the history of film and it’s so important to remember where we have been so we can forge new paths of where to go. He hails from Pittsburgh, but I won’t hold that against him! Ha ha! He came to Los Angeles to pursue his dream and he brings his creativity and passion for film – especially old school film – to our HQ every day, and we thank him for it! His latest movie “ Impossibility:Possibility” And now he is going to share his passion with all of you and where film began. In today’s post, I’d like to introduce you all to a budding filmmaker in his own right who has been part of our HA Team and has been making a name for himself as a filmmaker for the past few years, Brendan Sweeney. I take my inspiration with me wherever I go, wherever I work, and I pass on my inspiration to those around me on set and on my HA Team. I believe in looking back in order to innovate and move forward, to be inspired and TO inspire. As filmmakers, we owe our passion to the pioneers of film and photography, and then the filmmakers who followed. Excellent driver!īrief History About The Ford Thunderbird: See my book, Hidden Treasures in the Book of Job, for much more. These two chapters describe in detail Earth’s water cycle, mentioning multiple forms of liquid water falling from the troposphere and multiple forms of frozen water likewise falling from the sky above Earth’s surface. Job 37–38 provides a much more detailed description of what happened on creation day 2. I believe Genesis 1:6-8 is best understood as a brief comment on how relative to Earth’s surface there is water above (in the troposphere) and water below (in the oceans and lakes). This online paper refutes the claim that ancient peoples held such a belief: Note, too, that in Genesis 1:8 God called the raqia’ sky. The translation as vault or dome is based on the myth that the ancient peoples surrounding Israel believed that a solid dome was fixed over a flat earth with a reservoir of water above the solid dome. The root of the word is raqa, which means to pound the earth like a metalworker or blacksmith hammers or beats metal flat and thin to make a covering. Since 1970, new translations of the Bible translate raqia’ as expanse, sky, space, horizon, canopy, vault, or dome. The word firmament is only used 17 times in the Old Testament and it comes from the Hebrew word raqiya, which is defined as an expanse or visible arch of the sky. The Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament defines raqia’ as “expanse” or the “broad expanse of heaven. It originates from the Latin Firmare or Firmamentum, meaning sky, fix, settle, or to strengthen or support. Previous to 1970, all English translations of the Bible translated raqia’ as expanse or firmament. What is the common definition of the word firmament The word firmament is commonly defined as (1): the heavens or the sky, especially when regarded as a tangible thing. My Answer: The Hebrew word translated as expanse is raqia’. Question of the Week: How do you explain what Genesis 1:6-8 means in regard to water being in the expanse? 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. “You can also link a new habit you want to start, like meditating, to your lunch break,” says Manion. If every day you have to, say, do an expense report, follow that up with a stroll to someone’s desk for a quick chat. Let’s say you want to get in the habit of connecting regularly to new people in the office. “Start with an essential task, then add on a new habit that’s fun,” suggests Manion, or something you're looking forward to accomplishing. Rather than habit stacking two duties you really dislike together to get them over with, it’s more effective to connect an annoying or difficult part of your work with a new habit you see as a treat. In the workplaceįocus on creating habits that make your job more pleasant. The more frequent and in more rapid succession a behavior is performed, the faster it can become a habit.” Keeping your new habit simple, and linking it to something you do multiple times a day, is the quickest way to making it a permanent part of your life. For example, large scale data suggests that it takes 4 to 7 months to establish a gym-going habit, but only a couple of weeks to establish a handwashing habit. “Complex behaviors take longer to establish as a habit. However, habit stacking can be a real shortcut when it comes to cementing positive new behavior. But the variation was huge, between 18 and 254 days!” “ One study found that it took on average 66 days to establish a relatively simple behavior - for example, drinking a bottle of water - to become a habit. This is why following up your nightly shower with doing some new yoga stretches (or any other exercise you haven’t been able to squeeze into your day!) can pay off in more flexibility and better health. “About 80% of our actions regarding personal hygiene, like showering, are habitual, while only about 40% of our actions regarding exercise are habitual.” “On average, about 40% of our behaviors are habitual – that percentage is higher in some areas of our lives than others,” says Diehl. The fastest, easiest way to make this happen is to stack a new habit with something that you absolutely can’t get out of doing on a regular basis, like staying clean. If you want to change your behavior, you have a much better chance of achieving that by thinking about how to make it a habit than by making it a resolution.” In fact, a lot of our actions are driven by habits and routines. We give ourselves too much credit for our actions. “However, that’s not quite how humans function. “We tend to think about ourselves as these rational human beings with strong willpower that we can resolve ourselves to do something differently and then just execute it,” Diehl explains. It’s pretty basic: While research shows that resolutions tend to take dedication and hard work, habit stacking quickly becomes rote, so you just do it. “If you go for a morning walk, that’s the perfect way to make time for a good podcast you’ve been meaning to listen to,” says Manion. What’s more, the American Heart Association recommends habit stacking as a great way to layer more healthy physical activity into your life with minimal effort.Īdd something fun to a daily activity. Research done in 2020 found that both interest and repetition are essential building blocks in learning good habits. Welcome to the wonderful world of habit stacking! This simple and super-effective idea uses a combination of two tasks – one you have to do, and one you choose to do – to help you accomplish more, and feel a lot happier. Isn't your commute sounding better already? Sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic, inhaling fumes – and it takes a whole hour! How can you make it less of a slog? Once your inner voice subsides and with constant practice, you can read multiple words at a time. However, this limit does not apply to speed reading. When you read aloud, you can only say one word at a time. One other setting that's worth mentioning in this introduction is the chunk size – the number of words that are flashed at each interval on the screen. You'll find that when you drop down to lower speeds, you'll be able to pick up much more than you would have thought possible. That's basically it - constantly read passages at a rate faster than you can keep up, and keep pushing the edge of what you're capable of. Now try moving up a little past your base rate – for example, at 400 wpm –, and see how much you can comprehend at that speed. It should feel a lot slower – if not, try running the speed test again). Now, reread the passage again at your base rate. This speed should be faster than your inner voice can "read". You should be straining to keep up with the speed of the words flashing by. If you have high comprehension, that probably means that you need to set your base rate higher and rerun this test again. You shouldn't expect to understand everything - in fact, more likely than not you'll only catch a couple words here and there. Now, read that passage using spreeder at that base rate.Īfter you've finished, double that speed by going to the Settings and changing the Words Per Minute value. We've defaulted to 300 wpm, showing one word at a time, which is about the average that works best for our users. Your base rate is the speed that you can read a passage of text with full comprehension. To train to read faster, you must first find your base rate. Load a passage of text (like this one), and the software will pace through the text at a predefined speed that you can adjust as your reading comprehension increases. With the aid of software like Spreeder, it's much easier to achieve this same result with much less effort. Even if at this point full reading comprehension is lost, it's exactly this method of training that will allow you to read faster. This works because the eye is very good at tracking movement. You read through a page of text by following your finger line by line at a speed faster than you can normally read. In the real world, this is achieved through methods like reading passages using a finger to point your way. The solution is simple - absorb reading material faster than that inner voice can keep up. However, it is entirely possible to read at a much greater speed, with much better reading comprehension, by silencing this inner voice. They can only read as fast as they can speak because that's the way they were taught to read, through reading systems like Hooked on Phonics. It is their inner voice that paces through the text that keeps them from achieving higher reading speeds. Most readers have an average reading speed of 200 wpm, which is about as fast as they can read a passage out loud. Speed reading is the art of silencing subvocalization.
